This TiddlyWiki is home to a collection of curated game development tools. If you just wanna make games for fun, you like the spirit of open source, if your budget is approaching 0, or you just wanna use some pretty good tools, then this resource should help point you in the right direction.

The tools listed fit these criteria:
* __open source or free__
** even though some tools listed might have paid components to them, I have made a determination that the functional gap between the free and paid versions is sufficiently small
** no restrictive licenses if your creation is commercial
* __cross-platform__
** at least on two of the three major dev platforms (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux)
*** has to be able to run on a modern-ish version of the platform without much hassle
*** if the tool is browser-based, then it is considered cross-platform

To get started, click the category links above. You can also navigate the timeline tab to the right. Or you can peruse the tags tab. Or just search for something at the top right. I think the best method is to to use the tags in each entry (a //tiddler// in TiddlyWiki jargon).

Unless you wanna tinker around with TiddlyWiki, you can safely ignore

If I get ambitious, I might write a plugin to toggle all of that, and hide it by default.

TiddlyWiki is an extensible, nonlinear, personal notebook/wiki. Well, it's that and whatever you want to make it I guess. Self-modifying, it stores all data inside of itself as HTML.

* I'm a bit ambivalent about the fact that TiddlyWiki stores its data inside of itself. I've used the software before and it seems like it begins to bog down slightly after storing a ton of info. I think there are plugins that allow you to store and load data outside of it, though.

* I've used ~TiddlyWikis before to document game ideas. I like to think of it as RKD -- rapid knowledge development.
